In this article, we are going to review the Note 8i, an affordable mid-range device from the brand Infinix.
Infinix is one of the upcoming brands in Asia and Africa that sell smartphones at reasonable prices. And most recently, the company introduced its latest smartphone model, NOTE 8i in the past February 2021. This model is a continuation of the Infinix NOTE 8 with specifications that increase the efficiency of use.
Infinix Note 8i, a smartphone that is placed in the game line. Because it’s powered by an Helio G80 chipset, which is designed for playing games at an affordable price, especially from MediaTek itself. The note 8i has a large screen+ HD resolution for a better viewing experience. Also, its DTS audio system (via 3.5mm headphones) helps to enhance the user experience.
Furthermore, Infinix Note 8i consists of 4 / 6 GB RAM and 64/128GB ROM memory, supports a maximum of 512 GB microSD card. It can be used all day with the support of Infinix power marathon technology embedded battery. The device supports 18W fast charging via the USB Type-C port.
Design
The NOTE 8i measures 171.4 x 77.7 x 8.9 mm in length, width, and thickness for body size and weighs 183g. So Note 8i is usually lightweight but sometimes it’s not comfortable to hold on the palm.
It comes with 6.78 inches “HD Infinity-O display and a punch Hole front camera and the screen aspect ratio are 20.5:9 and the contrast ratio is 1500:1. There is no notch on the display, so this device is a perfect choice for anyone who doesn’t like the notch feature.
The maximum brightness available on the Note 8i display is 480 nits, which shows nice results on a small budget. Above the edge of the screen, there is a light sensor, indicator light, and a speaker. The screen will have a call saver mode to follow. It helps filter down blue light and has a night mode as well.
On the right-hand side is the volume up/down button. Next is the power button. The button has a finger scan sensor as well.
Touch control buttons of the device are integrated into the display screen. By that, the position can be customized in the device’s settings menu.
On the left side is the location of the 3 slot SIM card tray. It can be used independently, supports 2 Nano SIM + 1 MicroSD Card. Nano SIM supports both 4G, 3G, and 2G networks.
The bottom of the Note 8i is consisting of a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a microphone hole for chatting, and a Type-C connector for charging the battery and connecting data to the computer. Next is the speaker box of the device. The DTS Audio feature provides a loud sound. The sound quality is clear and realistic.
The back of the phone is designed unique plastic texture pattern. When it hits the light, it shines brightly, it giving a luxurious and premium touch.
Performance
Infinix Note 8i comes with a MediaTek Helio G80 CPU processor and Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. This processor chip is designed for playing games, especially at a low cost, but provides good performance.
There are three memory variants available for Note 8i on the market: 4 GB/64GB, 4 GB/128GB, and 6 GB /128GB. The internal memory of the device can expand up to 512GB via a microSD card.
For gamers, there is a game mode to help increase performance while playing games. Playing games like PUBG and Call of Duty is very smooth and impressive. It works better than the price. It also includes the ability to change FPS values to run games (like Garena RoV) far better.
Another valuable feature of this phone is the ability for parents to set playtime for their children. Through it, children will learn the discipline of scheduling.
Battery
Note 8i is powered by a whopping 5200 mAh battery, and it usually takes about two hours to 100% power up the phone via an 18W fast charger. Once charged, the battery boosted by Infinix native power marathon technology provides continuous power to the phone for up to two days.

Infinix note 8i Camera
Apart from this, the handset has a 2-megapixel macro shooter, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and an AI lens. The cameras are equipped with a powerful flash with support for HDR panorama. Infinix Note 8i camera setup can shoot videos in 2K resolution at 30 frames per second, and shooting functions are outstanding with the Ultra Night Mode 2.0, which helps to get the light suitable for shooting at night.
The front camera has an 8-megapixel sensor which is located inside the bench hole with a dual-LED flash. The company added AI capability support to take better selfies. It can adjust the color balance and beauty of a photo automatically.
Also, the eye-tracking automatic focusing feature helps to make changes for a clear look after shooting. For videos, it can capture 1080p videos at 30 frames per second.
Software
The smartphone runs on Android 10 based on Infinix XOS 7.1, an Android-based operating system developed by Infinix Mobile for use on smartphones of the Infinix brand.
Infinix XOS 7.1 operating system (android-derived) has outstanding features such as Video Recording, Game mode, Battery Lab, Freezer, X share, X Theme, X note, Smart Translate Scan, Incoming video, and more.
The user interface of Note 8i responds well to use. We cannot see any delays in touch responses.
Personally, the problem is that I feel that too many apps are installed than necessary, and there is quite a lot of bloatware.
There are several security systems to choose from. The fingerprint sensor on the right side of the device allows you to unlock the screen easily. Or you can even use your face to unlock the device. There are facilities to add another face (like your friend) in addition to your face.
The X Theme app of Note 8 helps to customize the display according to the user’s preferences. Such as themes, wallpapers, lock screen patterns, and icons.
In addition, the device supports a variety of file formats. Like MPEG-4, 3GP, and AVI for video files and PNG, JPEG, BMP, and GIF for images.
The Note 8i supports all Google Services without any restrictions: Such as Play Store for downloading applications, Gmail for checking and reading emails, google drive for saving files, Google Map for general map use, its Google photos for syncing photos from the device, etc…

In this era, you don’t have to pay a high price to find a good mobile phone to use. Infinix Note 8i is one of them. Note 8i 128 GB/8GB model price is Rs.17,899 in India and international price starts from $144.
Conclusion
The Infinix Note 8i is specifically aimed at the economy class but the phone offers good value for the price. Large storage capacity, a powerful processor, a large battery that supports fast charging, and a large screen give it a real definition.
With all these features, the Infinix Note 8i has added considerable competition to the phones of the Realme Q2i and Techno Camon 16 in the same category.
